Data Works is a multi-faceted web-based data visualization application built with R, Shiny and googleVis. The application consists of a series of easy-to-use data visualization tools, each of which provides users with comprehensive access to the NEA’s Survey of Public Participation in the Arts (SPPA). Data Works users can control a wide range of functions, examine their own arts participation as it compares to the rest of the country, explore how arts funding in their community compares with funding across the nation, and visualize how nationwide arts participation has changed over time. Finally, Data Works provides a way for the public to access and interact with raw data from the SPPA, and provides powerful forecasting tools that allows policy makers to examine how changes in key variables could impact arts participation over time.
